First Baptist Church of Bloomfield, NM, is seeking a man called of God to fill the position of Student Pastor who is passionate about spending his life to see the Gospel transform future generations by partnering with parents in the discipleship process of their teenagers. The main focus will be to connect students to Jesus, help them grow in their discipleship, create relevant worship experiences, and engage students in missions and ministry.
FBC Bloomfield is a Southern Baptist church with an average Sunday worship attendance of 425 people and an average Bible Study attendance of 321 people. San Juan County has a population in excess of 100,000 people, of which 25% are students, and has three dominant cultures: Anglo, Hispanic, and Navajo. There are other minorities in the community as well.
The church is theologically conservative and supports the Baptist Faith and Message as adopted in 2000. It is expected that any pastoral candidate’s views would be consistent with those of the church body as a whole, and a passion to reach the lost and to make disciples of the saved is essential. Our mission statement is: “Gathering in worship to our King, growing each other through the Word, serving others with our lives, and sharing the Gospel with those we meet every day. Simply, we are all about the Gospel.”
A college degree with some seminary education is preferred, with a minimum of two years of experience in pastoral ministry. The Student Pastor is primarily responsible for the pastoral care given to 7th -12th-grade students and their families.
Bloomfield is located in the high desert of the Four Corners Region of New Mexico and is about 45 minutes south of Durango, Colorado. Bloomfield, Farmington, and Aztec cities form a triangle of cities along the rivers flowing through San Juan County, New Mexico, and are located approximately 10 miles from each other along the legs of the triangle. The church draws members from all three cities and the surrounding unincorporated areas of San Juan County.
San Juan County citizens experience great four-season weather, world-class trout fishing and hunting, and an excellent environment and landscape for hiking, biking, and camping opportunities. Snow skiing is about an hour’s drive away in the winter. The area supports several outstanding golf courses, including Farmington’s Pinon Hills Golf Course, which has repeatedly been voted one of Golf Digest’s best municipal courses.
The compensation for the position will be commensurate with the pastor’s experience, education, background, and church size. Resumes should be submitted as an email attachment in pdf format to studentposition@fbcbloomfield.com or in written form to the attention: “Student Pastor Search Committee,” 200 W. Sycamore, Bloomfield, NM 87413, on or before August 30, 2023. An automatic email reply will confirm receipt of the electronically submitted resume.
